WAUWATOSA, Wis. — Police shot and injured an armed man at a Milwaukee-area children’s hospital’s neo-natal intensive care floor late Thursday morning, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke told reporters.

Milwaukee police had gone to the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin to arrest the man on a felony warrant, but instead of surrendering, he took out a handgun and fled down a hallway, prompting police to shoot him, Clarke said.

No one else was injured, he said.

The hospital, located in Wauwatosa a few miles west of Milwaukee, was locked down Thursday afternoon because of the incident, the facility posted on Twitter.
