MIAMI, Fla. — Rescuers are searching for a passenger who reportedly fell from a plane off Florida’s coast, authorities said Thursday.

The pilot made a distress call to air traffic controllers, reporting that a man fell out of the plane eight miles southeast of Tamiami Airport, the Coast Guard said.

The Piper PA 46 aircraft went on to land safely at the airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The Coast Guard confirmed to CBS Miami it was searching for the passenger in a search and rescue boat.
