FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — One man is dead after authorities said a vehicle ran off the road and ended up in a pond Thursday morning in Fayetteville.

Investigators have identified the victim as 36-year-old Timothy Edward Duncan of Fayetteville.

Duncan was driving a 2010 Dodge Journey on Dunn Road when investigators said he crossed the center line near South Plymouth Street around 7:12 a.m.

Officials said the vehicle left the roadway, crashed through the backstop fencing of a softball field and ended up in a pond.

Authorities told WTVD that the vehicle had likely been there for several hours. Officials said they’re investigating how it happened.

Friends described the victim as a loyal, funny and kind man who was a father of six and worked for Triple A Towing.
