WILKES COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities said four to five acres of woods were burned during a fire Thursday afternoon in Wilkes County.

Officials said the fire was reported around 12:30 p.m. in the Fletcher’s Cove community on Fletcher Cove Road in Purlear.

Several departments responded to the scene and were there for several hours. No injuries were reported.

Authorities said the fire was caused by a man burning brush. The man had a burning permit and officials tried talking him out of the burning, but he burned anyway, according to authorities.
