CLIMAX, N.C. — A woods fire was responded to along Monnette Road near U.S. 421 on Thursday afternoon.

A firefighter at the scene told FOX8’s Cindy Farmer the fire covered approximately three to four acres.

The fire is now contained and firefighters are putting out the hot spots.

One lane of U.S. 421 South is closed to allow for fire trucks to park in the road.

During the height of the fire, smoke could be seen for miles.
