RALEIGH, N.C. -- College students Chardonnay Patterson and Khaliyah Donaldson described holding on when the Vortex ride at the N.C. State Fair malfunctioned on Oct. 24.

Both held on and just have some bruises, far fewer than the five people who ended up in hospital that night.

Timothy Dwayne Tutterrow of Georgia was charged with three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury.

The two women said they hope those who are responsible for the malfunction are punished.
