GREENSBORO, N.C. — N.C. A&T suspended adjunct professor and City Council candidate Jamal Fox Tuesday, on the grounds that he violated UNC system’s political activity policy.

Officials say Fox broke a rule that a university employee must first seek permission to run for office before announcing his candidacy.

Provost Joe B. Whitehead Jr. said that he did not know Fox was running for office until Fox’s opponent, District 2 Councilman Jim Kee, brought it to his attention.

Whitehead said officials are also investigating another issue Kee brought to their attention – that Fox may have traded a favorable grade for students’ votes.

Fox was suspended without pay.
