Wilmington police fatally shoot two robbery suspects

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Wilmington police shot and killed two men and wounded a third after a Pizza Hut was robbed late Friday night.

The Star-News reported that 18-year-old Ronald Roland and 20-year-old Tevin Robinson were pronounced dead at a hospital early Saturday.

Authorities said 22-year-old Jalani Smith faces various charges after being treated for his injuries. He was charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and kidnapping.

The suspects allegedly approached an employee outside the Pizza Hut about 11:45 p.m., forced the employee back into the restaurant at gunpoint and robbed those inside.

Authorities said the suspects were shot after exchanging gunfire with officers. Wilmington police said they were refused to obey police commands.

No officers were injured. It remains uncertain how many were involved. They have all been placed on administrative leave.
