Ramseur man accused of stealing car, running over witness

ASHEBORO, N.C. — A Ramseur man is accused of stealing a car and running over a witness, according to Asheboro Police.

Officers responded to the Lakeview Road area around 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, where they found a man lying in a ditch with a head injury.

Police said the victim, Rolando Morales of Asheboro, saw Jorge Antonio Hernandez-Rivera, of 989 Christopher Way, Ramseur, steal a 1999 Dodge Durango.

There was an altercation between the two, which resulted in Morales being hit by the SUV.

A short time later the stolen vehicle was recovered on Glovinia Street, but no one was in it.


Police processed the vehicle and after an investigation, they issues warrants for Hernandez-Rivera including felony larceny of a motor vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Police say Hernandez-Rivera is a career criminal with an extensive criminal record and has just recently been released from prison for being a Habitual Felon.

Morales was flown to UNC Hospital, but the extent of his injuries are unknown.
