John E. Marshall, 59, of Lincolnton

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A Lincolnton doctor was arrested Monday after authorities said he raped a patient more than a decade ago.

WBTV reported that 59-year-old John E. Marshall was charged with first degree rape, felony conspiracy to commit first degree rape, and sexual offense by a custodian.

The crime allegedly occurred in 1996 while the victim was being treated by the suspect and another physician, who is now deceased.

Specific details were not released, but authorities said drugs were given to the victim before to the assault.

Authorities said the suspect was arrested at his home after a year-long investigation and placed in the Lincoln County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.

The investigation is ongoing and no other details were immediately available.
