FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police said they’re investigating after a 2-year-old girl was shot and killed early Saturday morning.

Police said the victim was found after they responded to a shooing call around 12:39 a.m. in the 2600 block of Graham Road.

Police said the victim had sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities said the child discovered a loaded handgun at the home and it fired. No one else at the house was injured.

Detectives have recovered the handgun believed to be involved in the shooting, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and no other details were immediately available.
