BURLINGTON, N.C. — A 23-year-old Burlington woman faces murder charges after she initially reported her boyfriend’s death was self-inflicted.

The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office said Jasmine Camille Kirkland, 23, of 4576 Sartin Road, called 911 around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday and told dispatchers her boyfriend shot himself.

Eric Williams, 33, was transported to Moses Cone Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. He died a short time later.

On Friday, Kirkland was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death. Deputies said an investigation determined Kirkland fired the gun that caused the fatal gunshot wound.

Kirkland is being held without bond in the Alamance County jail. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Monday.
