Winston-Salem police still looking for info in deadly shooting

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police are asking for the public’s help in finding whoever is responsible for a deadly shooting that took place last month in Winston-Salem.

Police issued a Crimestoppers alert on Thursday related to the death of 43-year-old Michael Denard Bruton, who was found shot in the driver’s seat of a black Kia SUV at the intersection of North Cleveland Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25.

EMS tried aiding Bruton when they arrived, but the victim died at the scene.

Investigators believe Bruton was in a nearby parking lot when he was shot. Bruton then started driving on North Cleveland Avenue before his SUV went off the roadway near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, hitting a street sign and a tree stump.

The SUV had “damage consistent with gunshots,” police added.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at (336) 773-7700 or Crimestoppers at (336) 727-2800. Crimestoppers offers cash rewards of up to $2,000 for information which leads to the solution of any unsolved crime.
