CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A North Carolina teenage girl born without eyes or a nose will be getting a new nose, according to ABC News.

Cassidy Hooper is scheduled to undergo the final surgery to give her a nose on Wednesday.

Hooper is a 17-year-old senior at Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh.

She has gone through several facial reconstruction surgeries at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte since 2007. Pretty soon, she’ll be able to breathe and smell through a nose.

“I’ll have a real nose like everyone else’s,” she said.

It remains uncertain why she was born without eyes and a nose. Authorities said it could be a rare birth defect that may have occurred during the first two weeks of gestation.

“Her heart and brain are normal,” her mother, Susan Hooper, 43, told ABC News. “Nothing else is going on with her.”

Cassidy Hooper is on the track team and qualified last year for a scholarship to the Charlotte Curling Club.

Below is a video news report that WBTV did earlier this year on Cassidy Hooper:
