FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A woman is accused of attacking a Fayetteville police officer with scissors, stealing his police car and then crashing into several vehicles.

WNCN-TV reported that Ayana Kenyatta Taylor, 21, of New Jersey, faces various charges after police responded to a report of a suspicious person with a weapon.

Authorities said they found the suspect with a hammer and scissors in the area of Campground Church Road near Nix Road Monday evening.

Video footage posted by WTVD-TV shows the officer and an apparent bystander on top of her, but she managed to get up and drive off in the officer’s patrol car. The officer also reportedly fired a Taser at her.

Officials said the suspect crashed the police car into three other vehicles less than a mile away at the intersection of Morganton and Skibo roads. No injuries were reported.

Authorities said she was under psychiatric care at a hospital until her arrest Friday. Her charges include assault on a government official with a deadly weapon and larceny of a motor vehicle. She was placed in jail under a $36,000 bond.

Police said the suspect was in town with family members visiting other relatives. Her father said he told police his daughter was schizophrenic and delusional.
