WALLBURG, N.C. – An 82-year-old Davidson County man died in a house fire Friday night.

Authorities said Wayne Setliff was pronounced dead inside his home at 4950 Reid Road in Wallburg.

Officials said firefighters with the Wallburg Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the fire around 6:08 p.m.

Authorities said the fire appears accidental, although they do not yet know what caused it. They said the home appears to be a total loss.

Neighbors reportedly tried saving Setliff by attempting to enter the home through two different doors, but were unable due to fire and smoke.

Beau Gardner lived across the street from the victim and described him as “the nicest man.” Gardner told the Lexington Dispatch that Setliff treated his daughter like a grandchild.
