Cam Newton named Panthers’ co-captain for first time
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For the first time in his career, Cam Newton has been selected by his teammates as co-captain.
Linebacker Luke Kuechly, linebacker Thomas Davis, wide receiver Steve Smith, offensive linemen Jordan Gross and Ryan Kalil were also selected as co-captains.
Rivera announced the news prior to Thursday’s practice.
During training camp, Newton said being a co-captain was a goal of his, saying “when you’re a team captain that’s not just a patch on the jersey. You’re holding yourself to a higher standard with being accountable.”
