THOMASVILLE, N.C. — The city of Thomasville plans to pay attorneys from Winston-Salem up to $25,000 to take care of a lawsuit the city could soon face.

The Southern Environmental Law Center is threatening to sue the city because of several wastewater spills.

The organization says the city is violating the Clean Water Act because it put untreated sewage into the Yadkin River Basin.

Thomasville City leaders hope the attorneys will come up with a settlement, while city workers fix the problem.
