Alamance-Burlington Schools want student athletes to maintain 2.0 GPA

BURLINGTON, N.C. — The Board of Education for the Alamance-Burlington Schools system is considering tougher standards for students to be eligible for athletics, according to the Burlington Times-News.

The paper reports students would need a 2.0 grade point average to play sports.

Some coaches and athletic directors say they don’t like the idea, worrying that students with disabilities would struggle to keep a ‘C’ average.

Currently, there are 95 student athletes in the school system who have a grade point average below 2.0.
