WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Mayor Allen Joines is hitting the gym and looking for the fittest families in the city.

Joines is trying to do 10 workouts with people of all ages over the next 10 days.

For the past few years, Joines has been working on a campaign with local healthcare providers to bring attention to childhood obesity.

Now, he says its time to focus on the whole family.

“It makes me feel good and we are hoping to make individuals have better lifestyles, particularly these young people, because I am very worried about them and early onset diabetes and things that come with obesity,” Joines said.

Joines will practice what he preaches by working out in various gyms across the city, hoping to inspire people to make fitness a part of their daily life.
