WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A home repairman from Winston-Salem has claimed half of the North Carolina Education Lottery’s $672,000 ‘Carolina Cash 5’ jackpot.

N.C. Lottery officials say Charles Pace won $336,415 by matching all five numbers in the game’s Aug. 8 drawing. The winnings amount to $228,762 after taxes.

Officials say Pace bought the winning ticket at the Wilco on South Stratford Road in Winston-Salem. He learned of his win the morning after the drawing while sitting outside the same store where he made the purchase.

“I had asked them to print out the winning numbers from last night,” Pace said. “I was sitting there looking at the numbers and I thought I was imagining the whole thing.”

Pace says he plans to purchase a new car and may also take a beach vacation.
