Stokes Co. jobless rate increases to 8.4 percent

STOKES COUNTY, N.C. — Stokes County’s jobless rate is slowly headed up, with increases both in May and June, according to the North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Division of Employment Security.

The numbers, which were released last week, show Stokes County has a jobless rate of 8.4 percent, up from the May number of 8.1 percent.

Stokes County reported a labor force of 24,104. The county reported around 2,000 unemployed workers in June.

In May, Stokes County reported 1,961 unemployed workers.

Across North Carolina, unemployment increased in 81 counties in June.
