Aqua North Carolina is asking state regulators for a 19 percent rate hike, according to WSOC.

Under the rate hike request, customers would pay an extra $10 per month.

This would be the third rate increase in five years for the state’s largest water provider, which serves about 88,000 customers in 52 counties.

Aqua’s president said the hike is necessary to recoup money spent on new service lines and pumps.

A public hearing on the rate increase will take place in the fall.
