Woman arrested in Rowan County homicide

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Deputies say a 61-year-old woman has been arrested in a Rowan County homicide investigation.

According to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Marlene Postell Johnson of Mooresville was arrested shortly after midnight Wednesday. Deputies have not said what Johnson is charged with, but she is being held in the death of 62-year-old Shirley Goodnight Pierce of Kannapolis.

Deputies say Pierce was found dead around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at her home at 117 Evandale Road. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Johnson is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center without bond. She has a court appearance slated for Wednesday.
