Thomasville man faces child porn charges

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Police say a man has been arrested on more than a dozen charges after child pornography was found inside an apartment in Thomasville.

According to police, 28-year-old Mark Reece Buchanan was arrested Monday night after police, Homeland Security and ALE officers searched an apartment at 604 Griffith St.

Police say pornographic images involving children, computers, hard drives and other data storage devices were seized during the search.

Buchanan is charged with 10 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and 10 counts of disseminating obscenity. Additional charges are pending, police said.

The suspect is being held in the Davidson County Jail under a $2 million secured bond.

In a news release, police Capt. Darren Smith said, “Crimes of this nature involving children are a shock to the conscious of the public and we will continue to aggressively investigate and prosecute the perpetrators.”
