Motorcyclists struck by lightning near Grandfather Mountain

Two people are recovering in Avery County after they were struck by lightning while riding a motorcycle.

The motorcyclists were riding near Grandfather Mountain when a storm rolled in. They tried taking shelter under a tree in a parking lot, but the tree was struck by lightning.

Park rangers believe the current shocked the motorcyclists after traveling through the ground.

One of the motorcyclists is said to have serious injuries. The names of the riders were not available.
