RALEIGH, N.C. — Families who receive food stamps are reporting problems getting the assistance due to glitches in new computer system.

This system, called NC FAST, went online earlier this year to streamline services. Several Department of Social Services across the state are reporting glitches. Over the weekend Medicaid was added to the program which caused some people not to receive food stamps.

“If this new system is causing this much problem I just feel like they should go back to the old system,” said Philemon Thompson of Winston-Salem. Thompson says he’s not received his food stamps since May.  “Every time I call they say the system is down, try again the next day.”

Officials with the Forsyth County Department of Social Services say they are immediately looking into Thompson’s case as state officials work to quickly correct the computer glitches.
