Winston-Salem is the first city in the state to be designated a “compassionate city.”

Last night, the Winston-Salem City Council passed a resolution to participate in the International Campaign for Compassionate Cities.

It’s designated to encourage businesses, people and the entire community to be more compassionate.

Other cities that have joined the movement say it’s also been a way to help with job creation.

The city is now responsible for hosting a number of events encouraging people to be kind to one another.
