Panthers owner’s son Jon dies after battle with cancer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Panthers Stadium President Jon Richardson, and son of Panthers owner Jerry Richardson, has died after a lengthy battle with cancer, a source confirmed to the Charlotte Observer on Tuesday afternoon.

He was 53.

Richardson was the oldest son of Jerry Richardson and served as the Panthers Stadium LLC President from the team’s inception until his resignation in 2009.

Jon and his brother, Mark, resigned in 2009 but remained part of the ownership group.

Richardson was a two-year starter at wide receiver for the University of North Carolina. He is survived by wife Kathleen, son Johnson and daughters Rose and Claire.
