Truex Jr.’s long winless streak ends at Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif. — Martin Truex Jr. won the NASCAR Sprint Cup series auto race Sunday at the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Truex beat runner-up Jeff Gordon, a five-time winner on the Sonoma road course, by slightly more than eight seconds.

“It’s quite a relief. It’s a special, special day for me,” said Truex,

Truex hadn’t made a trip to victory lane in 218 NASCAR races stretching back to June 4, 2007.
