1 killed in wrong way crash on I-77 in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Authorities said one person was killed in a head-on collision caused by a car driving the wrong way on I-77 early Saturday morning.

WSOC reported that 21-year-old Austin Carson died at the scene of the crash which was reported around 3 a.m. on I-77 near Westinghouse Boulevard.

Officials said Carson was driving a 1999 Accura that was hit by a 1998 Honda Civic headed northbound in the southbound lanes of I-77.

Troopers said charges are pending against the driver of the Civic, 26-year-old Robert Goulding.

Crews shut down two of the lanes for a short while on I-77 while they cleaned up the scene.
