GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A Greensboro man who suffered a broken neck in high school playing football is now beating the odds by playing baseball.

Brandon Burkes just finished his freshman year at GTCC where he batted 361 with two home runs and 18 runs batted in. He was named to the All-Region team.

Burkes is now spending his summer playing for the Kernersville Bulldogs in a college wood bat league.

He is making up the time he lost from his injury by focusing solely on baseball.
