WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Beautiful weather, delicious food and a whole lot of fun made the perfect ingredients for a successful first day at the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic.

Nearly 200 cyclists from all over the country are competing. The races kicked off Saturday morning and are planned to continue at 12 p.m. Sunday.

“We did 40 miles today so we're just keeping in the rhythm,” said cyclist Norma Scott.

Many people attended the event for the food and music, which was also featured.

Several people said they hope the cycling classic will grow to more than just an annual event, but a staple for the city.

“There's more and more cyclists coming out and more and more businesses are supporting cycling," said Ken Bowyer. "Hopefully we can develop more greenways and have more cycling roads."
