Memorial Day ‘Click It or Ticket’ campaign begins
RALEIGH, N.C. — The Governor’s Highway Safety Program officially launched its Memorial Day “Click It or Ticket It” campaign Monday, marking 20 years of seat belt safety awareness efforts that have saved countless lives.
To honor the milestone and show support for the cause, GHSP is asking driver’s to get out their cell phone cameras, snap a self-portrait of them buckled up while parked and share it on social media using the hashtag “#SafetySelfie.”
North Carolina was the first state to launch the seat belt safety initiative in 1993, according to WLOS.
The number of crashes in the state involving people without seat belts has dropped from 38,000 in 1992 to 8,000 in 2012.
