Fundraiser honoring fallen Lexington firefighter to benefit department

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A fundraiser being held Friday night in honor of a Lexington volunteer firefighter who recently died in a crash will benefit the fire department where he worked.

Matthew Charles Bailey, 24, was driving an Oldsmobile sedan on Highway 47 on the afternoon of Sunday, April 28 when his car was struck head-on by a pickup truck.

Bailey was a volunteer firefighter with the South Lexington Fire Department.  He leaves behind a 4-month-old son.

A Zumba fundraiser that will benefit the fire department is being held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the TRU Taekwondo Center at 5038 Peters Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem.

Organizers suggest those who participate make a $5 donation.
