911 service outage reported in northwestern Randolph County

ASHEBORO, N.C. – Randolph County authorities said some customers in the North State and CenturyLink telephone areas have been unable to call 911 since around 2 p.m. Sunday.

The outage affects customers primarily in northwestern Randolph County, according to Jared K. Byrd, emergency management coordinator for Randolph County Emergency Services.

Authorities said cell phone calls to 911 have not been affected.

Citizens in the outage area can try calling (336) 318-6929 for Randolph County emergency dispatch, 911 from a cellular phone, or go to the nearest fire department or law enforcement office.

Officials said telephone service providers have been notified and are working to fix the problem as soon as possible.
