ASHEBORO, N.C. — A man was sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison after being found guilty of sexual offense against his 10-year-old stepdaughter Friday in Randolph County Superior Court.

The Asheboro Courier-Tribune reported that Tremayne Wendell Carroll, 39, was found guilty of three counts each of first-degree rape of a child under age 13, indecent liberties with a child under 16 and sexual intercourse/sexual offense by a person in a parental role.

Carroll would carry the victim from her bed to his while the mother worked third shift between February and October 2009, according to testimony.

The paper reported that jury deliberations totaled around three and half hours on Thursday night and Friday morning.

Asheboro defense attorney Dick Roose gave notice that the verdict would be appealed to the N.C. Court of Appeals at the end of the trial.
