Police: Man tried robbing Eden restaurant at gunpoint

EDEN, N.C. — Police in Eden have arrested a man accused of trying to rob a Ruby Tuesday restaurant at gunpoint on Monday morning.

Brian Odie McKenzie, 29, of Eden, allegedly robbed the business at 706 S. Van Buren Road around 8:43 a.m.

Eden police said they were called to the restaurant by a witness. The caller told police he saw the suspect force a female employee into a door and the employee was screaming. 

Officers said staff at the restaurant identified the suspect for them, who was a previous employee of the business.

Authorities said the suspect was arrested at the Shell gas station at the intersection of Highway 135 and Harrington Highway shortly before 9 a.m.

The suspect has been charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and second degree kidnapping.

Officials said he was placed in the Rockingham County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond and has court planned for May 6.
