CRAIG COUNTY, Va. — Authorities said a Surry County pilot sustained minor injuries after a small plane crash Sunday afternoon in Craig County, Va.

WSLS reported that a 1973 Cessna 172M aircraft crashed while taking off around 2:50 p.m. at the Glider Port.

Police said the plane did not have enough air speed to take off and tipped over on its nose. They said the left wing hit the ground, causing the landing gear to collapse.

The pilot was identified as Ararat resident Kenneth Ray Gwyn. There were reportedly two other passengers onboard who were not injured in the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified. No other details were immediately available.
