Deputies: Rockingham Co. man drowns while fishing in Yanceyville

CASWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities said a Rockingham County man drowned after falling into a pond while fishing Sunday afternoon in Yanceyville.

Joshua Lamont Hardy, 23, of Ruffin, fell into a farm pond on Blackwell Road at around 4 p.m., according to authorities.

Caswell County deputies said the victim was found by a dive team in about 15 feet of water. They said he was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center and later pronounced dead.

Officials said the body was taken to Roanoke, Va. for an autopsy. They said they do not suspect foul play, but the case will remain under investigation pending the autopsy results.

The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office said they wish to extend their condolences to the family of Joshua Hardy.
