Authorities in Cabarrus Co. introduce new fines for not wearing seat belts

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. -- People who drive without seat belts in Cabarrus County will be subject to new fines starting Sunday.

County residents not wearing a seat belt face a $161 fine and, if a child does not have the proper restraints, the driver will be fined $213.

Officials said that 63 percent of people killed in car accidents were not wearing seat belts.
