Cyclist in critical condition after colliding with vehicle at Pilot Mountain
PILOT MOUNTAIN, N.C.–A cyclist was airlifted to the hospital after colliding with a vehicle on Friday afternoon at Pilot Mountain, according to John Shleton, Surry County EMS Director.
The accident was reported at 4:31 p.m. about halfway up the mountain.
The cyclist, who has been identified as a man in his early 50s, was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and is in critical condition.
The accident happened when the cyclist riding downhill, collided with a car travelling up the mountain. The man was trapped underneath the car when emergency crews arrived.
The cyclist’s name is being withheld pending family notification.
State Park authorities are investigating.
