MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Shenandoah Furniture Co. has picked a location for its new production facility in Mount Airy.

The Mount Airy News reports the upholstered furniture manufacturer leased a warehouse building at 754 North South St., which was formerly occupied by the MVP candle company.

Surry County Economic Development Partnership president Todd Tucker tells the paper the company is still looking for another site to be a “more permanent” location.  He said the company “needed something pretty quick” in the meantime.

“They want to formulate some long-term plans for Mount Airy,” Tucker tells the Mount Airy News.

According to previous reports, the permanent location could be either of the 61,000-square-foot Asmo or 36,000-square-foot Starret properties in the Westwood Industrial Business Park on N.C. Highway 52 North.

The new facility is expected to result in between 20 and 50 new jobs.

The company has begun advertising for workers for the facility, but not much information about the positions has been provided.  Those interested are asked to apply in person at the Employment Security Commission on West Pine Street.
