GREENSBORO — The Guilford County Department of Public health confirmed one case of whooping cough at Colfax Elementary School today, the News and Record reports.

“The health department partnered or collaborated with the school to prepare a letter or informational sheet for parents whose children were at most risk of being in contact with the individual with pertussis (whooping cough),” said department health education supervisor Lynne Beck.

According to the report, Guilford County Schools also sent an automated phone message out to parents, informing them about the case.

The letter informed parents or guardians that a child in their students’ class or on their bus had whooping cough.
