Police: NC probation officer sexually assaulted woman he was supervising

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Mecklenburg County probation officer is accused of sexually assaulting a woman he was supervising.

The Charlotte Observer reported that David Francis, 48, of Concord, has been charged with second-degree sex offense, sexual activity by a custodian and sexual battery.

The victim, who is on probation, told police Francis sexually assaulted her at the state’s office of probation and parole.

The suspect was in Mecklenburg jail Tuesday afternoon and has court planned for Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the N.C. Department of Public Safety said it has launched an investigation, but details have not been released.
