BURLINGTON, N.C. — Police are searching for two suspects who allegedly threw a stone through the glass entrance to a Food Lion in Burlington in order to steal numerous cartons of cigarettes.

Police say they responded just before 4 a.m. Thursday to an alarm at the grocery store at 414 East Harden St.

A witness told police that two men threw a large, decorative stone through the sliding glass doors at the front of the store to get inside.

The suspects then used trash cans to carry out “a large amount of cartons of cigarettes,” police said.  The brands included Marlboro, L&M and Parliament, they added.

The suspects were last seen in a dark-colored Chevrolet Trailblazer.  Police say they were on Harden Street heading toward Graham.

No other details were available.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at (336) 229-3500 or Crimestoppers at 229-7100.
