A family of smokers has been arrested after refusing to stop smoking cigarettes aboard a flight.

CBC News reported that the incident occurred on a Sunwing flight from Halifax to the Dominican Republic, forcing the plane to land in Bermuda Friday night.

Police were reportedly called to the airport around 9:55 p.m. to meet Sunwing flight 454, which was on its way to Punta Cana.

Authorities said the police boarded the plane and arrested the three smokers.

“It appeared to be a father, a mother and a son,” said acting Insp. Paul Simons, according to CBC News. “The parents appear to be in their 50s. The son, I believe, is around 22 or so.”

The family was reportedly smoking in the lavatory and refused to tell flight attendants where they’d stashed their cigarettes.
