Davidson County eighth-grader wins spelling bee for third year

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Ledford Middle School eighth-grader Nejat Alkadir brought home the Davidson County Schools’ Spelling Bee title for the third consecutive year on Friday.

The Lexington Dispatch reported that Alkadir became the champion after seven rounds of competition. The winning word was macadamia.

“I feel very good. I feel very happy to win again,” the 13-year-old told The Dispatch.

The 25 students participating represented all of the elementary and middle schools in the system and were competing to move on to the regional competition. South Davidson Middle School’s London Hayes was the runner-up.
