HIGH POINT, N.C. — A man has been charged in connection with the death of a 4-year-old who was struck by a vehicle while playing in her driveway earlier this month.

4-year-old Tryonna English was struck by a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer on Jan. 8 while playing in her family’s driveway at 1019 Asheboro St.

According to the family, she had just taken her backpack from the vehicle and was waking behind it when the Trailblazer slipped out of gear and rolled over her.

English was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.

The SUV was driven by James Bovill III, 26, of 1019 Asheboro St. He was the girl’s stepfather.

Bovill has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and insurance fraud in connection with the 4-year-old’s death.

Capt. Kirk said there is evidence to suggest Bovill was behind the wheel when the accident occurred. Police said they do believe it was an accident.

Capt. Kirk said the insurance fraud charge stems from Bovill’s statement in support of an insurance claim. Bovill claimed the “vehicle slipped out of gear,” but Capt. Kirk said there is no evidence to support that claim.
