HIGH POINT, N.C. — Police say a school bus crashed into a tree Tuesday morning in High Point.

Capt. Mike Kirk says the accident was reported at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Guyer Street, where the bus went off the road before hitting a tree.

It is believed the driver was suffering from some sort of medical condition at the time of the accident.

Rescuers were still working to extract the bus driver as of 7:45 a.m., according to Kirk.

Three children were on board the bus, but they are not believed to be injured, Kirk said.

A Guilford County Schools spokeswoman says the bus was #262 serving Kirkman Park Elementary School.

The spokeswoman confirmed three students were riding the bus, but no injuries were reported among the children.

No other details were immediately available.
